As you may be slowly realizing, the University of Michigan Wolverines football team have not done quite as well as had been expected this season.
The Wolverines lost the season opener by two points. Last week, they lost by 32 points. Some nay-sayers point out that is a fifth-power decline. If you accept that, the Wolverines will lose by a little over 33 million points today. Boo to that, I say! 33 million points? To Notre Dame? Nonsense.
Luckily, I now have the Bush Administration's Iraq Report as a fine example of how to apply a little counter-logic to this argument. Things are looking up for the Wolverines, my friend!
Let's look not at total points lost, but winning points by other teams. In the first game, Appalachian State's winning point came as part of a field goal late in the fourth quarter. In the Oregon game, the winning point came in the first quarter. Yes, try as they might, the Ducks were unable to score another winning point on the Wolverines through three quarters of football. No winning points at all have been scored on the Wolverines in the last 38% of the season!
As good as this victory trend looks, we should also note that no winning points were scored in the first 38% of the season either. So really, there was only a spike in winning points by other teams in the middle of the season. With that is mind, our chances look good against Notre Dame now that we are in the Post-Spike era.
